I just moved to St. George 3 days ago and decided to stop here for a late lunch. I'm from Southern California and enjoy Mexican food. I was pleasantly surprised to find that with their complimentary chips and salsa, they also had a nice bean dip. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with white sauce which also came with rice and beans. It was priced as I expected and was very delicious. The waitress was very pleasant and new the menu well. I also liked the Mexican ambience. They even have Cactus lighting. Great job to all the staff. I enjoyed my whole experience at this place.

I ordered enchilada that looked like it came from the kids menu and cost $7 The salsa and chips tasted like they were from 3 days ago will never go back employees seem like they hate their life and their job

Best authentic Mexican restaurant in Utah that I have ever been to. Steak fajita burrito from as amazing and so was the carne asada. My wife who is a picky eater loved the carne asada. Definitely recommend!!!!

Okay Mexican. Slow service. Kids Meals were disgusting. Fajitas were good but the rest was just okay. The Heber restaurant has better food.

Good family that my whole family enjoyed!! The bean dip was delicious! My youngest got a cheeseburger and it was delish!

pretty good food at a decent price. I had the Enchilada de Creme with chicken and it was very good. If you like a cream sauce style enchilada then you will like this.. my wife had the Soup which she said was kinda plain and not worth the $7.95 they charged. Chips and salsa were good, but nothing super special but I kept eating them even during my meal so they must have been pretty decent. I will definitely go back again.

  • Mark B.

Food was pretty good. Chairs were a little uncomfortable, but not unbearable. Will eat there again, but probably wouldn't go out of my way to get there.

I was really hungry when we stopped here for dinner, but I still would give them a great review otherwise. The beans/salsas/tortilla chips were a good appetizer. I was going to order the special-- chicken Monterey with sautéed peppers, mushrooms and onions--but the waitress recommended their chicken enchiladas a la crema. Holy moly!! She added sautéed mushrooms as I requested which made them perfect. The chicken was tender and shredded. The white cheese sauce was delicious. The rice and beans were flavorful. But best of all, the food was cooked on a plate that was sizzling when delivered to the table and stayed hot the entire meal. Si!! My husband loved the carne asade with a chile relleno, tortillas,, guacamole and sour cream. We had to try flan for dessert since everything else was so good. It didn't disappoint. A great meal with decent service (we had to ask the waitress a few times for drink, chip, and salsa refills).

  • Tim H.

Great place! amazing service! My family had great food and good price. The service was fast, Angie was a wonderful waitress, very helpful and friendly. Good Salsa and chips and even a bean dip. This will be a must every time we visit St. George!

  • Justin H.

Love this place. Great food, priced right, better service than Paula's. There's more cheese than I like, but if that's your thing, you're set. Unlimited chips and salsa, and it's delicious and comes with refrained beans to dip in as well. One one of the better Mex restaurants I've been to.

    (4)
  • Dave B.

Great salsa and good sized portions. The service was great when I went as well. Definitely a fun place to eat at whenever I'm in St. George.

Not sure who the reviewers are but this place is pretty gross. No care or thought into the food. Quality of ingredients are seriously lacking.

  • Douglas B.

Food is not very good, ordered chili colorado all they did was cut up some ranchera steak then through it in some chili colorado sauce, the meat was also rubbery. Our margarita was made incorrectly and the waitrees didnt seem to care. AND WORST OF ALL our tortilla container reeked of mildew and the manager barely acknowledged how gross it was. Avoid Don Pedros, dont know how other people like it

  • Allyx A.

I've only gone there 3 times, and I haven't been really that impressed with the service. When we walk in the hottest seems annoyed that we are there. Then our server seems impatient. Of the three times I went, it was only really busy 1/3. So it's like they had tons of people to to serve. The very first time we went, I didn't want to tip because of the service.

  • Brian L.

Service is a bit slow, but friendly. Food is excellent, and as a citizen of Los Angeles I've had more then my fair share of really good Mexican food.

  • Gary R.

Nothing special. Just good food. I had the taco with shredded beef and a tamale, rice and beans. All was good. Salsa is mild but good. Good service. Good pricing. No happy hour. That just plain sucks.

Best Mexican food in town! I ordered the fajita burrito and I was shocked how big it was & it had tons of flavor! I could barely finish 1/2 of it.. Even the men went home with left overs! So portions are large and a deal for there price! Service was phenomenal! Great hospitality! Id be back and I will also recommend this place to others!

    (4)
  • Joe S.

This is most likely the best mexican food in town. Don Pedro's comes closest with authenticity, taste and presentation. The place is family owned and they take the time to make the food right the first time around. The staff is friendly and very quick to handle all requests. Don Pedro's is a little out of the way with regards to its location, but worth the drive nonetheless.

  • Tiffany T.

We went to this place based on the reviews.. The food was okay, the best thing I had was the bean dip that comes with the chips. My taco shells were stale and the meat tasted a few days old. The service was not that great either.

  • Howard M.

Perhaps after reading more good reviews than bad, my wife and I expected to much! The service was average ! Our waiter was efficient ! (Robot style) He never smiled or offered any suggestions but did take care of our needs until we finished our meal . My wife wanted some flan but our table was cleared and the check presented before we even finished our drinks! The food was nothing more than average! Nothing more !

This is by far the best mexican restaurant I've found in St George. I ordered a combo with beef tacos, and the boyfriend ordered the shredded beef chimichanga. Everything was hot and fresh and big enough to take home for leftovers. They were even good cold. We were seated immediately. The server was timely with refills and food was delicious. The only thing that didnt make it a five star is that it took a long while after we ordered to get our entree. I'm going back to get some Menudo next time I have a hangover.

This is excellent Mexican food in St. George. Again, I have to thank Yelpers for helping me find this place. Immediately after being seated, the server brought me a bowl of chips with salsa and bean dip. The bean dip was a bit bland - a little salt helped that. The salsa was nice. I made it hotter by adding a bit of habanero sauce that was at each table. There's the ticket. I ordered their molcajetes. This is basically a Mexican stew made with chicken and beef. There are other versions that do the stew only with seafood or a combination. This was simply chicken and beef. It came with a dish of rice and refried beans and flour tortillas. The stew was very flavorful. I added some Tapatio to this to spice up some. It's nice to receive a dish and have a lovely simmered jalapeno sitting on top. It adds so much to the dish. Service was top notch! The bill was $12 and change including an iced tea. Quite reasonable and a good sized portion but not too much!

For some one lives in CA near too many mexican restaurant and tried lots I really can't give more than 1 star. The food is only ok . The costumer service it is only ok and in fact so weird ,the waitress was talking in the phone in spanish while she is taking another costumer sitting, so odd. I were seated in broken seat broken seat, the waitress was not happy to change the seat when I told her it is broken. Half way eating the waitress gave us the receipt and asked if we done . One thing I liked at this place is the decoration very authentic mexican.

Best Mexican food I've had in some time. Kids loved it. Bean dip is strangely good. Kids couldn't stop eating it. Good service. Clean. Entrees were excellent and reasonable price. A little off the beaten path but if it were ten miles further I'd go again. Five stars for me.

Everything here is homemade and everything we have had has been great. Their pico da gallo is so amazing, we bought some to go...tucked away in green valley and so worth it.

  • Barbara J.

We were so disappointed with Cafe Rio after going based on yelp recommendations, we tried one more recommendation and were not disappointed. Great Carne asada and ranchero Pollo - much better housemade tortillas and totopos. Must go again for molcajete.

I would love to give this place 5 stars but I just can't. The food is good, and the portions are huge! The bean dip they serve with the chips an salsa is amazing, but the salsa is to chunky and ordinary for my tastes. I usually get the chimi with shredded beef and it does not disappoint. My husband gets the chalupa that is a cross between a taco salad and a huge taco and it is amazing! If I want to change it up I get the enchiladas with molé sauce and they are authentic as they come. The thing holding this place back from 5 stars is the service which over the 5 years that I have been coming here is marginal at best. On our last visit, our waitress also had a name take identifying her as the manager. She was rude, brusque and snapped orders at her busser. We had literally just sat down when she approached the table and asked "what would you, like to order". My husband said to her that "we just sat down" and she started to walk away. We called her back and said "how about a drink order" to which she replied "I guess". My husband asked for double rice no beans and when his order came the chalupa was sitting in beans. He took a bite of his chimi and it was chicken not beef. He mentioned it to the waitress and she took it back to the kitchen and they just replaced the plate and not the food so the bottom of the chalupa was still soggy from beans. When we mentioned it to the waitress she acted bothered and said "it will take awhile to get a new dinner" Also, any Mexican restaurant worth their salt should be able to make a decent margarita. This place their margs are watery and flavorless, I know this is Utah but come one! There are better places in town (like on bluff street), I'm just loosing my patients with this place.

In St. George, there is no better Mexi food!! If this was in SLC, I might only give it 4 stars. But Mexi food is tough to find in Washington County and this place deserves 5 stars for not caving in to the bland tasteless palates that seem to dominate in this area.

Awesome food, great service. This is gonna be one of my new regular stops while in st george. Couldn't be happier.

  • Bud H.

This place is a hidden gem. First off, the chips, salsa and bean dip are amazing. The chips were served warm, the salsa was fresh with the perfect amount of spice, and the bean dip was heavenly - warm and creamy with just a hint of spice. This place has perhaps the best refried beans I've ever had, no joke. I really enjoyed the Tacos Al Carbon (steak) too. Just a very good authentic (homestyle) Mexican place that I'm sure to dine at again the next time I'm in St. George.

  • Kristi H.

My husband and I have been to this restaurant at least five times now. The food has been great every time, but the service is lacking on busy evenings. One waitress did apologize for the long wait, but other wait staff didn't seem to care that we had been sitting at our table for over 10 minutes without help AFTER waiting 30 minutes to get a table. Best night to go seems to be Thursdays - when they are slow, things go smoothly.

Don Pedro sits in a tiny nondescript strip mall across from a gas station. Most people wouldn't even know it was there unless they lived in the area. The interior is equally generic and almost a throwback to a Mexcian restaurant you would find over the Texas or San Diego border (on the nicer side of course), with red brick walls, vinyl booths, and a fake plan here or there. Fortunately this place serves some shockingly good Mexican food for St. George. I ordered the cheese enchiladas suizas (they were on special for just $6.75) and my plate was so massive I had to apportion my eating into intervals to finish it off! The cheesy rolled tortillas with green chile sauce and topped with cream...delightful. The best part is they offer a respectable selection of Mexican beers (sorry, only available after 12:00 pm according to local law), which are perfect for throwing down a heaping plate of Mexican food. Next time you're passing through the area, I can't think of a better place to enjoy a beer and burrito than Don Pedro!

Yummy. I've been here a couple of times. Everyone liked it in our party. Everything was tasty and had good flavor. I would definitely recommend it.

Went while visiting with my girlfriend's family, and had a nice late lunch. The salsa and bean dip served with the chips was really good. The bean dip had a bit of kick and the salsa was fresh and delightful. I had the enchiladas suiza and enjoyed them quite a bit as well.

I'm somewhat amazed there's a review out here already since this place is rather unassuming and tucked into a nondescript corner, but this turned out to be a pretty darn good Mexican place. I ordered the simplest possible meal of an enchilada with beans and rice, though the menu is sprawling with everything from seafood to fried ice cream. Normally, the beans and rice that come with a simple combo at Mexican places are pretty lame, but these were superb. The beans had a really interesting flavor to them that I'd never tasted before. The chicken enchilada was also excellent, with lots of well-cooked meat. Even the chips and dip that acted as the standard starter were good- the salsa had an interesting flavor and the addition of bean dip was a nice touch. I was also told the tortilla soup was particularly good and was designed to be a full meal in itself, so that might be a possibility in the future. Service was decent if a bit slow at times, but the prices were oddly high for pretty much everything and the interior kind of reminded me of a run-down school cafeteria.

Best salsa in town. Great ownership. I like the chimichanga special. Mmmmm.

    (5)
  • Heather M.

Food was marginal. Margarita was served with a lemon wedge as if to fool us into thinking there was any actual juice in it. But I might just be overly critical because I literally saw a cockroach walk across our table and onto my husbands silverware as we waited for our food.

  • Michael M.

My wife and I ate here on a Tuesday at about 8pm. It was very quiet and though not full, there were plenty of patrons. This was recommended to us by our hotel and was definitely worth the visit. The first thing we received was the standard chips and salsa, however, this also included a dish of re-fried beans. We were pleasantly surprised by this. It was very good and we probably could have finished with that and been happy. I had the Carne Asada Burrito and my wife had the Chalupa which was a first for her. The burrito would rank in the top 5 of all the burritos that I've had and my wife was convinced that she should have Chalupa's more often. Overall, the flavor was good, the atmosphere nice, and the staff helpful but not overly "looming" as we ate. I didn't give it 5 stars only because we found the seats rather uncomfortable (most of the padding seems to be gone), the table needed to be cleaned better (somewhat sticky in some places), and we were rather cool (almost cold). Otherwise, everything was great. I would definitely recommend this to my friends and family and will return the next time I'm in St. George.

The decor is really pretty, and for a chain restaurant, this one works very well. The food is tasty, and the service is very prompt. The mole sauce was really a delight. Servers and hostess were not terribly friendly, but the place was busy. It may not be terribly authentic (two of the locations are in Wyoming and North Dakota !), but the food is better than the other Mexican places we've tried in St. George. The margaritas are quite good, as well.

  • Katie P.

I ate here for lunch with my husband. The chips and salsa are pretty good...I wasn't impressed with the rest. Not bad....just bland. Most definitely for gringos.

    (3)
  • Kris B.

I've eaten here twice with friends and have never been disappointed nor have I gone away hungry. The food is delicious, comes quickly and very reasonably priced. If I'm down in St. George be sure this is where I'm stopping to get my fill on Mexican food.

  • Chad D.

Great Mexican in St. George. Definitely worth a stop. Good beer served is always a plus.

    (4)
  • Josh K.

Service was super fast, food is bland and un-exciting. Had the chimichanga and chalupa and they tasted the same. If you care about the taste of your food, this is not for you. If you want lots of food cheap and fast, this is the perfect place. I didn't notice a bug problem, but the seats were dead and uncomfortable. I'd say pass on by.

Yummy burritos. Excellent chips and salsa. About $8 bucks for lunch. Service was quick.

We come here every time we are in town. The chips, salsa & bean dip are always delicious, the entrees are tasty. A family favorite!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
